Italian Liberation Day

26/04/2023 - 13:27

At the end of April 1945, the Italian forces of the Wehrmacht and the Republic of Salo had neither supplies nor men to oppose the Allies, so on the 29th they capitulated at Caserta.

However, it was April 25 that became Liberation Day since on this date the National Liberation Committee of Upper Italy called on all guerrillas to rise up against the occupying forces and force their garrisons to surrender.

April 25 became a holiday already one year later, in 1946, and since then it is celebrated with marches, parades and placing laurels on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
